When I was growing up, spending time on a river or a lake was my favorite thing to do. I loved hanging out my my dad. Listening to his stories of growing up on the banks of the Little Red River in Arkansas brought me images of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn adventures. One of my core memories is of one of those river trips when I was wearing a bright red shirt and a hummingbird thought I was a big flower to enjoy. It spent a long time hovering very close, checking me out to be sure I didn’t have some tasty nectar hiding somewhere. It’s funny how little snippets of life can stay with you forever!
