This painting is an unintentional self portrait of me when I was much younger. When I finished her, I realized that she looked familiar, so I sent a photo of her to a close friend without giving away my thoughts. He immediately wrote back saying, 'That's YOU'! So I guess it is. The title came to me while I was painting, and I think it has something important to say. Maybe it's me reaching back in time to my young self. I'd like to be able to meet her for a coffee (even though she hated coffee back then) and give her some advice. If I could, I'd tell her to be strong, to never give up on her dreams, to never bend herself to try to fit other people's expectations, to hold onto her soul with a vengeance, to never put up with disrespect, to keep some whimsy in her life, and to always, always, reach for those stars.
